The Breakers came into this game knowing that a loss would end their hopes of making the playoffs once and for all and with three games remaining.
The Crocs had beaten the Breaks a couple games ago, in the midst of NZB’s six game losing streak, and by this time there wasn’t room for any further mistakes.
They call them FREE THROWS for a reason, they’re not supposed to be this hard.
Well, now that was an eventful week.
It’s not like there’s a good way to lose in double overtime. Any loss that takes two extra periods to settle it is bound to be full of tough breaks and missed opportunities.
The toughest thing about a league like this, where a handful of teams are effectively spread out across a continent and change, is getting results on the road.
The first game of 2016 didn’t go a whole lot better than the last game of 2015.

When it comes to celebrating milestones, the Breakers are pretty decent.
Kirk Penney has played many great games of basketball in New Zealand but this wasn’t meant to be one of them.
Once again, home court has been defended and the question is seriously starting to be asked: Are the Breakers championship favourites?
As well as the Breakers have played recently though, they’d still only won one away game this season until this one.
Fresh off of a close loss in Perth the other day, the Breakers were right back at it against the Wildcats again in a game that held plenty of later-season implications.
The Breakers went to Perth on a three game winning streak and with only one loss since Corey Webster returned. No small coincidence, that.
Sometimes it takes a complete team effort to earn a victory and other times it just takes one star to get hot.
The Breakers dropped by Sydney for their one and only battle with recognised NBA talent Al Harrington and it was a game of many oddities.
Fresh off of a burgeoning new rivalry with Melbourne, the Breakers returned home to do battle with their traditional enemies, the Perth Wildcats.
Despite what sports fans will say, they secretly love it when they can feel robbed by a referee.
Yeah, g’day there, how about another Breakers win? Lovely.
This was a good game.
