The win streak is over for the Breakers, after they went down in Sydney.
The storyline coming into this game was NBA veteran Josh Childress coming to town but it was King Cedric who reigned at Vector.
Four in a row, yo.
Well… it wasn’t always pretty.
This one was all business on the Sunshine Coast.
The Breakers produced one of their very best games of the season to hand the Cairns Taipans their first loss of the season, and on Cairns turf too.
Eh, we’ve seen worse.
This one was pretty clinical. The Breakers eased past the Townsville Crocs at Vector, nullifying the effect of the League’s top scorer, Brian Conklin.
Oh, dear God, that was close!
A poor third quarter condemned the Breakers to a second consecutive loss, dropping them to 2-2 to start the season.
An offensive drought and a defiant Melbourne team saw the Breakers pick up their first loss of the season, going down by 21 in Melly.
Two from two, baby! The NZ Breakers returned to the ol’ familiar haunt of Vector Arena, down the backstreets of Auckland City, and produced the goods in front of over 6000 fans.
Wow. This was unexpected.
So, where to now? The difficult thing about this ANBL roster system is that players are all rated on a scale of 1-10 based on experience and pedigree, and a team’s squad must fit under 70 points. It’s complicated, and we’ll let the board deal with it. Youth players are cheaper, star players are expensive, college players are automatically a 7 or something. Whatever. Let’s talk brass tax.
As it happened, the Breakers were already out of the running for the playoffs after results since their last game just didn’t go their way. So this game was a glorified exhibition for the fans, and an occasion to send off the legendary CJ Bruton.
I guess it’s time to turn the attention to seeing off CJ Bruton’s career in style. You simply cannot underestimate the impact that this guy has had not only on this team but also in basketball in NZ. He brought credibility and championship credentials to the Breakers and the 3-peat could not have happened without him. The crowd’s gonna blast the roof off when he gets announced in his final home game.
