It’s never nice to run into an ex. Especially not when they’re with someone else.
On one hand it was business as usual, on the other it was like nothing ever seen before.
Unfortunately the season came a little too early for the New Zealand Breakers.
Two years removed from an iconic third straight title, one year removed from missing the playoffs altogether… the New Zealand Breakers are ANBL Champions once more!
Oh man, how good was that!? If the systematic demolishings of Adelaide were impressive then this reaches on a whole new level.
There it is. The Breakers qualify for the finals just a year removed from missing the playoffs altogether – and two years removed from their last championship.
They say the Breakers are a team that peaks for the playoffs...
The Breakers either had to win this game by 26 points or it meant nothing. It took about half way through the second quarter before it was obvious that there was no way that was happening.
Sometimes, as a sports fan, there are moments of absolute mindless awe.
Goddammit. Just… goddammit.
The Breakers got a big boost the night before their game in Townsville with the Perth Wildcats beating the Cairns Taipans to send the Breakers outright first. But then they lost to Townsville and, folks, we’re back where we started.
After dropping one at home last week to the might of Josh Childress and the will of the Sydney Kings, the Breakers bounced back in impressive fashion to deal one out to the third placed Perth Wildcats at Vector.
Huh. That wasn’t how that was meant to go.
OH, TRIPLE DOUBLE ALERT!
A mostly impressive away performance was almost poached at the end as Wollongong came surging back to tie things up, before Mika Vukona iced this baby with some free throws and rebounding and basically all of what we’ve come to expect of him in his great career.
You wouldn’t think that this game was a top vs bottom clash, yet that’s exactly what it was and the Breakers got a fright right into overtime.
The Breakers continue their resurgent season with a nice win in Adelaide, and with 9 games left and a little buffer at the top of the table, thoughts of a playoff run are now a definite thing.
The Fast Break Report took a bit of a holiday over Christmas, while the Breakers kept on battling away. Well, we know that you’ve gotta give the people what they want, so here’s a recap of the stuff that happened while you were at the beach getting sunburned.
For a few short hours on Sunday the Breakers slipped from first place. Then they beat Melbourne in Melbourne and hahahahaha!
That’s more like it. Still not a clinical night of shooting but easily better than last week’s travesty.
