Domestic Daily - Stag Do Anyone?
Game Sitch
- Canterbury set the Wellington Firebirds a huge 356 to chase down after Henry Nicholls smashed 178 off 161 balls and Neil Broom followed suit with 117 off 115 balls. The Wellington bowlers didn't have the best of figures but James Franklin took it upon himself to keep the Firebirds in the contest with 102 off 87 balls, which wasn't quite enough for Wellington. Logan Van Beek and Hamish Bennett each picked up 3 wickets for Canterbury as the Firebirds were dismissed for 271.
- It was a slightly more subdued effort from the Otago Volts as they set the Central Stags 255 thanks to 60 from Aaron Redmond. Andy Mathieson was the chief destroyer for the Stags with 4 wickets but it was Kruger Van Wyk who carried the Stags with 114, while Dane Cleaver helped out with 70 to give the Stags the win. Neil Wagner was up to his usual antics for the Volts though, he hit 40 and then took 4 wickets, the man.
- Dean Brownlie hit 118 for the Northern Knights as they set the Auckland Aces 300 despite Michael Bates and Tarun Nethula picking up 3 wickets a piece for the Aucklanders. Matt Quinn hit a four off the last ball to give the Aces a nail biting win but the hard work was done by Craig Cachopa who hit 80 as well as 40 odd's from Brad Cachopa and Anaru Kitchen. Mitchell Santner picked up 3 wickets for the Knights as he continues to impress.
That Man Deserves A Mean Feed
- Who has plenty of dosh? You? Yeah well you're going to be shouting all the century makers a few seafood platters. Dean Brownlie, Henry Nicholls, Neil Broom and James Franklin all deserve a feast to go dining out on the poor bowlers.
- George Worker, mate what are you doing!? You get some chicken nuggets because I feel sorry for you for not getting any runs after being simply outstanding for the Stags.
- Neil Wagner chief, you deserve some biltong. Love your work.
Observations From The Observatory
- Mitchell Santner has emerged from no where really but he's making a very strong case for some sort of rookie award. Higher honours come with multiple years of such performances, or they should, but Santner is definitely making people take note.
- As is Craig Cachopa, yup he's back.
- The four top run scorers in the Ford Trophy are all young lads, pretty awesome huh? George Worker, Henry Nicholls, Craig Cachopa and Henry Nicholls.
- Obviously I can't ignore the Central Stags no longer, who would have thunk it? They've got a talented squad but all we've heard from the Stags are a bunch of excuses, I mean challenges. The Stags sit at the top of the table, two points clear of the Aces and have the highest run scorer in Worker and the leading wicket taker in Andrew Mathieson. Kudos.
