Black Caps Black Book .../Diary - Dear Kane...

Dear Kane,

It's weird calling you Kane, it's even weirder referring to you properly as Kane Williamson as to me you are a prince. That's why I call you the Prince, you're amazing with the Gray Nicholls blade and your 242 not out was simply sensational.

Some people might not appreciate it quite as much as what your skipper B-Mac does and somehow your innings might slide under the radar for many semi-cricket folk. But the way your innings was boring and exciting at the same time is really something to take note of as you pick apart the field, carve shots where ever you please and display a defensive game that makes you one of those assholes who you just can't get out.

I bet you were one of those assholes in cricket through the grades. We're about the same age and I've played cricket against a few guys like you who are just simply amazing at every facet of cricket. Great hands, loves to roll the arm over and so much time at the crease, you're just one of those asshole cricketers who make the rest of us stop playing.

Obviously I love you though. I never saw Martin Crowe bat, but I saw Stephen Fleming and Nathan Astle a whole lot. You put them all to shame and watching your career progress to rather staggering heights makes supporting the Black Caps that much more fun.

I get a tear in my eye every time I allow my wind to slide off in to the future, picturing you as the best batsman in the world. Maybe some epic encounters between the Black Caps and Australia headlined by you and Steve Smith is what really sets me off an emotional path.

I hope you understand that you give our small nation hope, hope of much greater days in international cricket. You're that guy, which probably doesn't sit well with you, but mate, we love you.

I mean you did this....

Obviously your friend BJ deserves some props, his innings was equally as masterfully crafted as yours. But he's the guy behind the scenes, so I'll let him be at peace.

You may wish to be a behind the scenes type of guy, but you're going to be the face of this cricket side for many years to come. I guess it's pretty awesome that our best batsman, the guy who gives us the most hope and cricketing pleasure is just a lovely Kiwi lad.

Honestly Kane, the Prince, I love you.

Regards,

The Mystery Doctor.
