Hard & Fast: Joseph Parker To Fight On South Auckland Soil
Joseph Parker will fight Carlos Takam at his home arena in South Auckland. Parker vs Takam will go down on May 21 in the Vodafone Events Centre and Parker will enjoy tremendous local support from his South Auckland comrades.
As we've wanted for so long, Parker will likely spend the next few years fighting overseas and any title shot he gets will definitely not be in Aotearoa. For Parker to bring the biggest fight of his career so far to his local stomping ground over bigger arenas around Auckland and thus bigger crowds, shows the calibre of Parker as a lad.
I've got goosebumps, full to the brim with excitement and anticipation as this isn't just a case of Parker finally moving into title contention. There's going to be an indescribable buzz surrounding this fight both in South Auckland and around Aotearoa.
The South Auckland aspect is understandable as it's Parker's home crowd and the atmosphere around South Auckland will be unlike anything we've seen before.
This will also be the biggest fight that we've seen in Aotearoa for well, my lifetime. I remember the anticipation and buzz when David Tua fought Lennox Lewis for the heavyweight title, an awesome experience and we only got to feel that through the telly. We've waited a long time for Aotearoa to return to the international boxing stage and Parker vs Takam will send our little nation into a spin.
We can't sleep on how many people around the world will also be keeping a close eye on this bout. Parker is now widely known in the boxing world as a highly talented heavyweight prospect which is evident in the fact that Parker is fairly close to a title shot, so boxing fans will be interested to see how Parker performs in such an important fight.
