Kiwi County Tour #10

That moment when you get a wicket with your gentle mediums

Leicestershire vs Gloucestershire

Hamish Marshall and Kieran Noema-Barnett traveled with Gloucestershire to Leicestershire for a few overs of typically English cricket, typical in that it was heavily influenced by the presence of rain.

Leicestershire were first up with the bat and managed 334 from 114.1 overs, with Noema-Barnett finally making an impact with the ball. He's a certified all-rounder but Noema-Barnett hasn't quite been able to contribute with bat and ball so far this season, so for him to take 3/56 off 23 overs at only 2.43rpo was a nice boost for the lad.

That's where the kiwi contributions stopped though as rain stopped play with Gloucs on 403/2, Hamish Marshall as the next batsman in and Noema-Barnett due in at No.7.
Kieran Noema-Barnett: 3/56 off 23 overs.

Kent vs Derbyshire

Tom Latham invited Hamish Rutherford and Neil Broom over to St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury, where Broom played passenger while Latham and Rutherford got to work in a Kiwi County Tour battle of the openers.

Kent hit 379 in their first innings, all out after 105.2 overs and Latham was out lbw for 14. Rutherford took the early points as he saw Latham's 14 and raised it considerably, hitting 65 of 120 balls as Derbyshire took a hefty lead, declaring on 574/9. Broom was lbw for 26.

Latham then responded nicely with 74 off 164 balls as rain impacted this game as well with Kent stranded on 238/3. As the BLACKCAPS opener, Latham has the edge over Rutherford and he's still holding that edge but it would have been interesting to see what Rutherford could have done with another effort at the crease.

During Kent's second innings, both Broom and Rutherford took to the crease as bowlers with Rutherford bowling 2 overs for 8 runs and Boom taking 1/17 off 6 overs.

Tom Latham: 14, 74.

Hamish Rutherford: 65, 0/8 off 2.

Neil Broom: 26, 1/17 off 6.

Warwickshire vs Nottinghamshire

Jeetan Patel and Warwickshire hosted Nottinghamshire and Jeetz was back at his best as he took 3/8 off only 5 overs to helped Warwickshire skittle Notts for 152. Jeetz then chipped in with 19* at No.10 as Warwickshire took a little lead, all out for 311 and Jeetz couldn't stop there.

As Notts worked their way to 81/2 before rain stopped play, Jeetz had to take a wicket didn't he? Jeetz picked up Michael Lumb lbw in either innings and had 1/18 from 8 overs in the second.

Strangely, in both of his past two games, Jeetz has taken 3 wickets in the first innings and 1 wicket in the second innings while also hitting 19 runs with the bat, in an innings in either game. Weird, but good, really good Jeetz, talk about consistency.

When we get back to the full swing of County games (T20 cricket is messing it up) I'll take a look at the leaders, but we need to pay close attention to Patel's quest for another 50-wicket haul this season. Patel has 27 wickets right now (2 behind Neil Wagner in Division 1) and he'll need to stack up a few more games in which he takes 3 or more wickets.

Jeetan Patel: 3/8 off 5, 19*, 1/18 off 8.

Middlesex vs Lancashire

Oh, another draw. At Lord's, Lancashire were first to bat and Neil Wagner hit 14 as Lancs worked their way to 513 all out with the batsmen up the order doing their job. James Franklin managed a wicket, taking 1/64 off 19 overs, pegging a Lancashire opener lbw for 17.

There were only two innings in this game and both Wagner and Franklin found a way to chip in on the Kiwi County Tour. Franklin backed up his wicket in the first innings with 41 batting at No.6 and Wag-nut took 1/83 off 29 overs as Middlesex were left on 419/5 as this game fizzled.

Neil Wagner: 14, 1/83 off 29.

James Franklin: 1/64 off 19, 41.
