Kiwi County Tour #11

Essex vs Kent

Results have been hard to come by in County cricket this season but in Chelmsford, Essex rolled out the welcome mat for Kent and smashed them to win by 10 wickets. Obviously Kent lost because Tom Latham wasn't playing and this also robbed us of seeing Auckland seamer Matt Quinn go against one of Aotearoa's premier batsmen.

Instead, we got Quinny up against my favourite young pace bowler in Test cricket Kagiso Rabada and both were equally impressive. Kent were first to bat and were all out for 207 off 62.3 overs with Quinn the fourth bowler used, only bowling 9 overs in which he took 1/28.

Rabada had Quinn lbw for 6 which was too little, too late for Kent as Essex already had over 500 runs on the board and a nice lead. Essex were all out for 569 and Kent could only respond with 370, thanks mainly to 4/60 off 24 overs from Quinn who took the last 3 wickets, including some revenge on Rabada who was caught-behind on 5. Kent's total meant the set Essex 9 runs to win and Essex did that in 1.4 overs.

Matt Quinn: 1/28 off 9, 4/60 off 24.

Sussex vs Glamorgan

Ross Taylor only got one innings with the bat for Sussex as they played out a draw with Glamorgan. Glamorgan batted first and were all out for 335 and while there were two centuries ahead of him and another down the order (three centuries in total), Taylor was trapped lbw on 4 as Sussex took a big lead, declaring on 552/5.

Not a whole lot else happened, Glamorgan finished on 307/6.

Ross Taylor: 4.

Yorkshire vs Middlesex

Kane Williamson is our Prince, so it's only right that he's the star of the show where ever he goes on the Kiwi County Tour. With Yorkshire hosting Middlesex though, James Franklin snatched the spotlight away from Prince Kane with a strong all-round display. Williamson was dismissed caught-behind on 28 via the bowling of Franklin as Yorkshire were all out for 406 in their first innings.

Franklin finished with 3/62 off 21 overs, also picking up the wicket of fringe-England batsman Gary Ballance.  Franklin's actually the skipper of Middlesex and basically led the way for Middlesex, hitting 99 batting at No.6 as Middlesex were dismissed for 577 with a lead up their sleeve. Williamson managed to bowl 4 overs of his offies and took 1/19 in the process.

Unfortunately for Prince Kane, his slump continued and he was caught-behind for 4 with Middlesex rolling Yorkshire for 167. Franklin wasn't needed with the ball in the second innings and Middlesex won by an innings and 4 runs.

Prince Kane's first four innings of the Kiwi County Tour: 10,0, 28, 4. Definitely a slump for Williamson and any time that he's not scoring runs, something weird is going down in the world.

Kane Williamson: 28, 1/19 off 4, 4.

James Franklin: 3/62, 99.

Nottinghamshire vs Lancashire

Lancashire were away to Nottinghamshire and they had a bat first, reaching 276 thanks to absolutely no help from Neil Wagner. Wag-nut was bowled for a duck but he did do his job with the ball, opening the bowling and getting through a substantial shift of 33.1 overs. Wagner took 3/107 and Lancs had Nottinghamshire all out for 474.

That's all she wrote for Wagner though, Lancashire were left stranded on 304/7 with Wagner the next batsman in and this one was drawn.

Neil Wagner: 0, 3/107 off 33.1 overs.

Surrey vs Warwickshire

You know we save the best for last and I couldn't be happier to say that our man Jeetz, Jeetan Patel, Dave, yeah him, he took 10 wickets in a match for Warwickshire as they rolled Surrey.

Patel took 5/62 off 17 overs in the first innings, ensuring that Surrey were all out for 273 and he even managed a few runs, handy runs down the order as he hit 31 off 39 balls and Warwickshire took a lead, dismissed for 449.

Patel was feeling it and another 5-wicket-haul had Surrey dismissed for 177. Patel took 5/61 off 29 overs and Warwickshire only had to hit 2 runs to win.

In his last three games (six innings), Patel has taken 18 wickets. That's 18 of his 32 wickets for the season and he looks on track to break that 50-wicket mark once again.

Jeetan Patel: 5/62 off 17, 31, 5/61 off 29.
